Friday, 24 June, 8.30 pm, The Old Market Square (in the open air)

In keeping with the festival's tradition, the opening concert accompanies the celebrations of the Festival of the City of Toru?. This year it will be held on the most important day of the Festival, i.e. the feast of the city's patron saint, St John the Baptist.

Blues with a symphonic touch is a musical project led by Marzena Ugorna, a singer known from, amongst others, the programme 'The Voice of Poland'. Drawing on the heyday of Polish blues music in the 1970s, the artist brings back the figures of the greatest frontmen and frontwomen whose work has given her much inspiration: Tadeusz Nalepa, Mira Kubasi?ska, Martyna Jakubowicz, Czes?aw Niemen, and Janis Joplin. The repertoire is composed of thirteen selected musical pieces. Marzena Ugorna delves into a musical genre where the words carry a powerful message, while the sound envelops 'a piece of the soul'. She constantly draws inspiration from other people, their sincere emotions and the truth. The project has brought together a team of distinguished musicians. The singer will perform to the accompaniment of the Toru? Symphony Orchestra and her band.
